Coquille in French means a seashell. The French Coquille dish (kind of a gratin dish) was served on a seashell, so heat-resistant white porcelain plates started to be called Coquille. Common Coquille plates have a lion-face accessory and round handles, but ours are original: with a pig-face one, “Boochan”! There is a pig-logo on the back, which is really cute. It is very nice for serving a gratin dish and also soup.
