Discover Japanese traditional modern pottery dinner plates to gorgeously present the chef's extraordinary dishes in western, Japanese and other Asian or even fusion style. "Apollonia" [29 round plate] has been designed with the usage at the World Best Restaurants in mind. Apollonia is named after Michael's first wife in the film, "The Godfather". As if it were reaching out towards the air, the no-rim form is characterized to be spacious and beautiful. Made of locally produced, coarse earthen clay and with unique glaze recipes and traditional Japanese pottery techniques, each piece has an artisan touch and "one of a kind" charms including rustic iron in powder and pinholes. Comes in five mesmerizing colors, which our designer and skilled craftspeople have expressed, consuming a lot of time and effort. The "rough-textured" [Black] & "smooth-textured" [Blue] are exquisitely hand painted. A brush is used to make a circular pattern with many brush tones, which attracts the eye of everyone. The [Gray] (Sabi-kairagi) is made with a traditional technique of first applying a layer of white powder-clay (the "kohiki" technique) which later crazes during firing. Then, by applying traditional Japanese brown paint, such a unique crackle pattern is created. [Celadon] & [Yellow] in soft hue are also made with the traditional Japanese "kohiki" technique before the application of crazing-inducing special color glazes.
